Record High in Referrals to Prevent Anti-Terror Scheme

According to official data released on Thursday, referrals to the UK's Prevent anti-terror scheme reached a record high of 10,293 in the year leading up to September 2025, marking a 39% increase from 7,408 the previous year. This increase includes a notable 42% rise in referrals related to extreme rightwing ideology.
The Home Office indicated that the surge in overall referrals may be linked to recent events, including the 2024 Southport attacks. Such incidents appear to have prompted more public reporting.
The data reflects growing concerns about various forms of extremism, with the government emphasizing the importance of early intervention through the Prevent programme.
