Donald Trump announced that the United States will seek compensation from Iran for all the people the country allegedly killed or injured during decades of conflict and attacks. This statement was made on his profile on the social media platform Truth Social, where Trump reaffirmed the intention to formalize this demand in negotiations with Tehran.

This demand for compensation comes amid rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran. The Iranian government has made specific demands regarding war reparations, complicating dialogue between the parties. Trump stated that his demand will be expressed in a way that may further exacerbate the already complex relations between the two countries.

Multiple media outlets, including CBS News, reported that Trump is not only demanding indemnities for those directly affected by Iranian attacks but also for Middle Eastern countries that have been impacted by Iran's actions over the years. This approach aims to strengthen the U.S. position in the negotiations.

In response to the demands made by Iran in negotiations regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump emphasized that the American proposal for compensation is part of a broader effort to address security issues in the region. Currently, the possibility of reopening the Strait is shrouded in uncertainty, mainly due to statements from both sides.

According to reports from La Libre Belgique and other outlets, Trump's demand aims not only to compensate for damages suffered but also to assert the U.S. stance against Iran's activities both abroad and within its own country, where protests and crackdowns have also occurred.

The escalation of tensions results from Iran's insistence on receiving compensation for war damages before any progress in discussions about the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a complicated future in diplomatic relations, as reported by various sources. Trump is thus following a confrontational line while also positioning himself as a defender of American and allied interests in the region.
