FDP Vice Teuteberg sees East-West division as a business model

Linda Teuteberg, Vice Chair of the FDP, stated that East German identity was retrospectively invented after reunification in Germany. She emphasized that East Germans largely understood themselves as Germans in a divided Germany prior to reunification.

Teuteberg criticized that politics, particularly by the PDS and the AfD, has fostered a resentment-driven agenda that emphasizes the division between East and West Germans. In her view, this is part of a political business model that has gained prominence in discussions.

Sixty-five years after the construction of the Wall, the question remains whether East and West Germany have truly overcome decades of division. Teuteberg pointed out that the differences between the two regions are often highlighted, which she believes is not in the interest of a united Germany.
