SC Grants Abhishek Banerjee Permission to Travel Abroad for Surgery
The Supreme Court has permitted TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee to fly overseas for eye surgery after a previous denial by the Calcutta High Court.

The Supreme Court of India has granted TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee permission to travel abroad for eye treatment. This decision came after the Calcutta High Court had previously denied his request for permission to travel overseas for medical purposes.
According to reports, Banerjee is currently facing a police case related to alleged intimidatory statements made during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election campaign. Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju mentioned in court that Banerjee has 16 criminal cases against him, raising concerns about the possibility of him fleeing the country.
The court's decision allows Banerjee to be abroad for a duration of three weeks for the medical procedure. The discussions in court highlighted the legal complexities surrounding his travel amidst ongoing cases against him.
