Elias Hirschl nominated for the German Book Prize

Elias Hirschl has been nominated for the 2026 German Book Prize. With his novel "Schleifen," published by Paul Zsolnay Verlag, the Viennese author is among the 20 titles listed on the longlist announced on Tuesday.

Alongside Hirschl, the longlist features other authors, including Helene Bukowski with her work "Wer möchte nicht im Leben bleiben" (Claassen) and Franziska Gänsler with "Orca" (Kein&Aber).

The selection of the longlist was made by an expert jury that considered both well-known names and new voices in the literary scene. The shortlist of nominated titles will be published on September 8.

The decision on the winner of the German Book Prize will be made on October 5. Interest in the award remains high, as it represents a significant honor in German literature.
