Colombia records a 7.4 magnitude earthquake, causing at least 111 deaths
A strong earthquake in Chocó has left multiple victims and damage, while Colombia's president visited the affected area.
On August 10, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook the San José del Palmar region in Chocó, Colombia. The tremor was felt in areas across the central and western parts of the country.
According to reports, at least 111 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured as a result of this earthquake. Authorities are assessing the damage in the hardest-hit cities, including Quibdó, the capital of the department.
Colombia's president, Abelardo de la Espriella, visited Quibdó to oversee the situation and the rescue and assistance efforts for those affected. The government is expected to implement measures to aid the victims.
Additionally, the tragic death of a six-year-old son of a mayor in Bahía Solano was reported, who died when his school collapsed in Quibdó. This incident has shocked the community.
Colombia is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it an area of high seismic activity. A previous earthquake of 4.8 magnitude was also recorded in the same area, although no damage or injuries were reported.
