Thousands of migrants remain in Ceuta after border crisis, local leader reports
The situation in Ceuta remains critical with local authorities confirming 100 migrant deaths during the recent surge from Morocco.
According to reports, the mayor-president of Ceuta has indicated that approximately 3,000 to 5,000 migrants are still in the Spanish exclave following a significant influx from Morocco, which saw around 78,000 crossings last week.
The local leader, Juan Jesus Vivas, stated that 100 migrants lost their lives during this border crisis, stressing that the current situation is unsustainable, with many of the remaining migrants being minors.
In response to the crisis, the European Union noted that while Spain had assured that Schengen Area security is not compromised, the situation highlights vulnerabilities at Europe's borders.
